One of the biggest reasons I got more serious about photography was because I wanted to capture my kiddos in a less stressful environment than a department store studio. Did you see me there? You might have. I was the mom who was sweating and trying to wrestle two kids to smile at the camera in the 15 minute time slot we were given. This is not a dig on these type of studios, but it just wasn't a good match for us. My kids take at least 30 minutes to warm up and I am way too anxious (and sweaty apparently) to have a good experience with that kind of pressure.
So, I invested in a nice camera. It was great! Instantly I was taking better pictures. I wanted them to be better, though. So. . . I took that camera off auto, I read books, articles, took classes, joined forums, purchased new equimpment and practiced, practiced, practiced! I started out taking pictures of some of my friend's families for fun and I really enjoyed it. I decided I liked it so much I wanted to keep doing it!

Or wait, your two-year old is grumpy? We'll go with it. I promise you will never look back on a photo with that cute, grumpy two year-old face and regret having it.
